PARIS â The French National Assembly adopted legislation late Monday that characterizes sex between adults and minors under 15 as rape, a move made after years of debate and rounds of sexual abuse scandals gradually pushed lawmakers to bring the French criminal code closer to that of most other Western countries.

A frustrated Auckland father who could not settle his crying 3-month-old daughter has admitted striking her about the head, pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Jerome Dean, 22, appeared in the High Court at Auckland today, telling those in the room he wanted to take responsibility for his actions.
He entered a guilty plea to culpable homicide not amounting to murder before Justice Sally Fitzgerald.

WASHINGTON: Facebook-owned Instagram unveiled technology on Tuesday aimed at preventing underage children from creating accounts and blocking adults from contacting young users they don’t know.
It was the latest move responding to concerns about inappropriate contact between adults and children on the platform, which like most services sets an age minimum of 13. Instagram will begin using AI to determine a user’s age at signup in an effort to find underage users.
